About the Summer House Inn
The Summer House Inn is a typical turn-of-the century Chautauqua Inn located in the Chautauqua, NY. It is a comfortable accommodation with quaint rooms and private baths with a shower. You can meet and converse with other guests in the dining area where facilities are available to prepare your own meals and snacks.There are pleasant porches on both the front and back of the Inn to view people walking by or enjoy a relaxing moment reading your favorite book.
The Summer House Inn is conveniently located at the top of the hill, just off the red brick walk, between the Amphitheater and the Hall of Philosophy. It is just up the hill from Chautauqua Lake and the public beach.

Q: When should I plan on arriving?
A: Please make your week’s stay begin on Saturday. Check-in time is 3 PM. Check-out time is 10 AM. Before or after these times, baggage may be left in the office at your own risk. If your arrival occurs when the desk is not manned, your key and directions to your room will be next to the TV set in the living room.
Q: How should I pay for my stay?
A: Payment can be made by check or online bank transfer. Send required amount with your reservation:
2 week stay or less — Total amount with your reservation or 1/2 by January 15 and 1/2 by March 15.
3 week stay or more — 1/3 deposit by January 15, 1/3 by March 15, 1/3 by June 1st
Any balance is due on arrival. Extended payment arrangements may be made.
Sales tax is 8%. The county bed tax is 5%. These costs will be added to the advertised base rate.

Q: What should I do if I need assistance?
A: The Inn employs two housekeepers who are incredibly helpful. They can be found throughout the building from early morning to mid-afternoon and again in the evening. I am in and out of the building throughout the day. If you have a pressing issue, please feel free to call me at 412-779-5406 or leave a note for me on the Inn desk.
Q: What kitchen facilities exist?
A: The Inn has a large common area in the basement equipped with several refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee pots. We also provide dishes and silverware so please plan to prepare simple meals and snacks at the Inn. There is no extra charge for this access. All food should be kept in this area -- there are storage containers for your dry goods as well.
Q: What other amenities does the Inn offer?
A: The Inn offers free WI-FI throughout as well as a communal television with cable. Bedding and towels are furnished. Sheets are changed once a week. Towels are changed upon request. Trash is emptied and beds made daily. Local and long distance phone service is available, and messages will be placed in your box near my desk. Rooms have ceiling fans and small space heaters.
Q: Any hard and fast rules?
A: The Inn has a firm policy of NO PETS, NO SMOKING ON THE PROPERTY, AND NO COOKING OR FOOD IN THE ROOMS.
Q: I'm so disappointed, but I need to cancel. What do I do?
A: Cancellations that arrive by March 15th will be refunded all deposits minus $50/room/week.
After March 15th:
- If a cancellation arrives 14 or more days before the expected arrival date, 50% of the deposits will be returned.
- If a cancellation arrives 1-13 days before the expected arrival date, NO refunds will be made.
I reserve the right to change a reservation to a like room to accommodate a longer term stay. You will be notified before a change is made except for stays of 1 to 4 days.

Greetings! My name is Jen Webler. I purchased the Summer House Inn in 2016 and am loving the sense of community it brings to my family! My grandparents discovered Chautauqua in the 1970s and our family has been convening there every year since. As a child of Chautauqua, I have made my rounds -- attending the Children's School and Boys' and Girls' Club as well as working at the Children's School, Registrar's Office, and the Athenaeum. The opportunity to purchase and run the Summer House Inn was one that I could not pass up as I feel that it is the perfect culmination of my experiences. My family hails from Pittsburgh but has a house on the grounds that we keep full of family. Most notably, you’ll probably notice my parents or my three young-ish children during the week or my husband on the weekends. We look forward to maintaining the simplicity of the Summer House Inn while sprucing and updating certain aspects.
